It has been a while since we have talked about AREDN. I updated the AREDN page with some of the latest information about our AREDN network.
I had mentioned before about how you could use a Mikrotik hAP ac lite to connect to the network from your home, even if you did not have a clear line of site to an RF based node. The feedback I got from a couple of people was that it was too complicated to flash the alternate firmware. Others said the cost was too hi.
I have been testing lots of different hardware and I have found 2 low cost devices that are super simple to setup. They are designed to be travel routers. At the time of this post, the one is $28 on Amazon. These devices already have a firmware installed that can be easily flashed. It is a simple as downloading a file and then uploading it to the device. All done through a very simple web interface.

I have updated the maps, services and nodes on the page as well as added a hardware section where you can check out all of the devices for home, long distance and wide area.

- GL ARL150. Simple to setup and less than $30 (Has WAN and LAN Port with DTD on VLAN2 of LAN)
- GL AR750. Simple to setup. Has 3 ports for more experimentation with direct connections (WAN, LAN and DTD).
